The ancient castle in Fujian Tulou





These unique structures called Tulou, began to appear during the Tang Dynasty, in the X-th century, when the representatives of the ethnic Hakka people were forced to migrate to the southern part of China, and to protect themselves from the local population.




This Tulou was built in the twelfth century. It is a four round buildings and a few square. In fact, the building is a fortress, which has only one entrance. The main fortress wall was built from a mixture of bamboo, earth, stone, granite, wood and other scrap materials. Until the middle of last century, these buildings were used for its intended purpose. This year there will be five years from the moment the 46 Tulou in the UNESCO list of protected sites.
