Festival "Cavalhadas" in Brazil (9 photos)





Forty days after Easter to all of Brazil, but especially in Pirenopolis, State of Goiás, celebrating the Festa do Divino Espírito Santo, or the Ascension, include the celebration of the victory of the medieval Iberian Christian knights over the Moors.
Pirenópolis historic town retains its colonial architecture in churches and civic buildings. During the three days of celebration Cavalhadas, Pirenópolis resembles a medieval Iberian town. Cavalcade, fights, tournaments, festivals and dances are held in medieval costumes, and the highlight is a sham fight, held at the city's arena. Moors, of course, suffer defeat and convert to Christianity.
Festas de Cavalhadas includes a parade with lavish ad knights who demonstrate their ancestral color. Christian knights wearing helmets fantastic papier-mache blue, and the Moors - red.
